Første spor på New Jordal Swingers' aller
første plateutgivelse "Hold On" fra 1974 var Eddie Cochrans "C'mon Everybody".
Senere samme året kom bandets andre LP "Rock Machine" med Cochrans like
klassiske "Summertime Blues", før den tredje i rekken av Cochran-klassikere, "SOMETHIN'
ELSE", ble spilt inn til bandets femte album "Close Up" i 1977. Dette var før
punken fikk sitt rotfeste her i landet, og det var mange som mente at NJS' versjon av "SOMETHIN' ELSE" var for hard kost fra bandet. Både Eigil
Bergs sang, Svein Finjarns gitarinnspark i soloen og kompet generelt ble vurdert
upassende - kanskje for røfft - til resten av "Close Up"-repertoaret.
Innspillingen var et naturlig valg til en av NJS-klubbens EP-utgivelser spesielt
til klubbens medlemmer i 1981, og da CD-utgaven av NJS' femte
album skulle utgis i 2008 og mastertapene ble hentet ut fra Nasjonalbiblioteket
i Mo i Rana, låt nettopp "SOMETHIN' ELSE" som et friskt pust og ble et naturlig
valg blant bonus-sporene til CD'en.
